Rey’s Cabin
Filed Under Gaming Stuff | Leave a Comment

The map of the cabin is more or less done. There’s some obvious miss-matching of symbols, as they came from different catalogs, but it’s the best I can do for now.
The stairs along the north wall go up to the sleeping loft, which is warmed by the fireplace chimney and the stove chimney. The upper right-hand corner is a water closet, with just a toilet. It’s a proper flush toilet that flushes out to a septic field.
The room just south of the w/c is a store room. The bathtub is one of the old fashioned wooden ones that has to be filled with a bucket. Rey pulls the bathtub out of the store room and in front of the fireplace to bath, putting it closer to the source of hot water.
The room in the bottom right corner is Rey’s workroom and pantry. The cupboards and shelves contain all the stuff she needs to do her hedge witchery, and where she stores her foodstuffs. Commonly used items would be on the mantle of the fireplace, or on shelves above the stove.
The piece of furniture in the bottom left-hand corner of the cabin is supposed to be a sink (with a pump to bring water up from the well).
Originally, I was thinking there’d be no electrcity to the cabin, but I might have Rey get a small generator, and/or some solar panels to power a small fridge and freezer (the freezer would be in the cellar, which is accessed through the trap door in the upper left-hand corner of the cabin). I still have to discuss the solar panel idea with the GM.
The map was created using Campaign Cartographer 3, by ProFantasy.

Rey’s Cabin, a work in progress
Filed Under Gaming Stuff | Leave a Comment
The new Dungeon Designer 3 update for Campaign Cartographer 3 has come out, and I’ve been playing around with it, making a map for a character of mine in a World of Darkness play-by-email game I’m in. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

The rectangle with the stone pattern in it is just a place holder for now, until I can find a stone fireplace symbol to put there. The symbols used for the walls were created by my friend, Matthew Lynn, and are not openly available (though that may change). Rey (short for Honoré) is going to be settling down and getting herself a log cabin to live in. The details of how this happens haven’t been worked out, but I’m using the cabin as a way to get familiar with the new stuff for CC3.
I’m not too thrilled with the bitmap tile used in the background for the grass, so I may change it before everything is said and done.

Rearranging things in the blog

I decided to move my writing samples from static pages and put them into blog entries. That way, when there’s adult content, you’ll have to do that extra click to get at it.

This is another exerpt from Shadow of Creation. It’s got adult content, so you’ve been warned.
This scene takes place as the Storm Crow is preparing to sail out of Belanum for Marigwyn Darkbreaker’s tower. It’s just after Lee takes Wayne down to her cabin for their own farewell, and before Seanan and Emily start a rather important conversation.

Things in the Dark
Filed Under Writing Samples | Leave a Comment
He was falling. It was dark – ever so dark – and cold. And with the cold came memories
He was trapped, locked in the root cellar. Small things around him started to glow, like small eyes belonging to some unknown boogeymen.
The eyes moved.
They were going to catch him. And eat him. And nobody would know what happened.
He struggled up off the floor and tried to find the door. He couldn’t find the handle!
He backed into the corner and, shaking, slid down onto his rear.
They were getting closer.
He tried to cry out, but only managed “Mama!†in a hoarse whisper before he was smothered.
