Writing Adventures

Writing adventures for role playing games is a lot like writing a novel. I found an old Dragonhearth forum posting for it. I recommend you go check it out.

The latest installment (Page 16) of the Domino Girls went live in the wee hours of the morning this morning. It’s coming along really well, I think, and our readership is slowly but steadily growing. David and I are working ahead, trying to keep as large as a buffer as we can in case something happens and we have to put a hold on working on pages. In fact, I’m putting together pages 24 and 25 over the next couple of days. David’s working on page 26 (the last page of Slow River #1), and I’m working on the script for the first four pages of Slow River #2.
I’ve gotten feedback from my writing group for the third chapter of The Morgan Affair. The most common comment I’ve gotten is about the lack of tension and conflict. In fact, one of the members said the writing was great, but what’s the point of it if there’s no tension, nothing to hook the reader. I have to agree with that statement, so that’s something I have to work on. I just need to decide if I’m going to continue working forwards, or if I should go back and work on the first three chapters some more.

The Mythic City game I play in is currently contemplating switching from WitchCraft to the new World of Darkness (a.k.a. nWoD) at the end of August/beginning of September. In an effort to see how difficult it would be to translate everything from one system to another, the GM and I set about to create a new shapeshifting race. We came up with the Mythic City Bast, which replace the High Bast from WitchCraft.
Now, Brigid, through various game play events, became the High Priestess of Bastet. In the nWoD, the gods can do as they please, and Bastet would not be suitable as a Totem Guardian. So, I created (with some very helpful input from Dustin) Springs From Shadows. Springs From Shadows is the cat spirit who has become her totem spirit. (If you are familiar with Werewolf: The Forsaken, then you know what I’m talking about.)
Below you’ll find links to the pdf’s of what we created.

Brigid’s sheet may look a bit wonky, so be warned.

They’re Messing With Our Chocolate
Filed Under Personal | Leave a Comment
I discovered this morning that the big food companies are applying to the FDA to substitute hydrogenated oils for cocoa butter in chocolate and still call it chocolate. Why? Because the price of cocoa beans has gone up and they’re not making making as much of a profit.
Here’s a link to a story that explains it all: http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/4/30/7136/38687
The end of the comment period for the FDA is June 25, 2007. Please let the FDA know what you think about this substitution.

Noctem Aeternus
Filed Under Art of Writing | Leave a Comment
A new fiction magazine will debut January 1, 2008.
Noctem Aeternus will be a FREE quarterly PDF magazine where the reader will find science fiction, fantasy, western, or even mystery stories…but all tales will have an element of horror.
“The horror genre sometimes gets a bad reputation for being the shock jocks of the literary field,” Editor Michael Knost said. “You can find plenty of blood and guts, but sometimes there is no story among the gore. Noctem Aeternus will be a quality fiction magazine, focusing on the story and its characters.”
The first issue will include a short story (and interview) from master storyteller Ramsey Campbell. Ramsey Campbell is perhaps the world’s most honored author of horror fiction. He has won four World Fantasy Awards, ten British Fantasy Awards, three Bram Stoker Awards, and the Horror Writer’s Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
