Month End Evaluation of Goals

Back on October 22, I posted my writing goals for 2009. As a review, here’s what they were:

January 2009

  • Revise TMA, one chapter per week, minimum 1k words revised per day.
  • Submit minimum 3 chapters to crit group.
  • Do required 6 crits for writing group.
  • Start checking out agents currently accepting submissions.
  • Do Create A Culture & Create A Language for Zaan for Storm King’s Eye.

January is more or less over, so let’s see how I did:

  • I did not get the revisions done, but I did submit the three chapters to my writing group.
  • Completed one crit. I think.
  • Did not start looking for agents.
  • Did not do Create a Culture/Create A Language for Zaan.

Not a very good start to 2009. A big part of not getting the last two things done on my list was, well, because I forgot about the existence of these goals. I have since found the huge planning binder – you know, the one I put in a “safe place” – and will faithfully work from it starting February 1st. After the Superbowl is over.

  • What a wonderful way to start the day – a new blog post, and this one might actually be *useful* to people other than myself. :) #
  • <sigh> The word count has gone down to 1615, as I deleted some extraneous words. Extraneous is today’s Big Word of the Day. :) #
  • <whimper> More words cut. Really ought not to have culture references not everyone will recognize. Even if they should know Indiana Jones. #
  • Oooh, and now the plot thickens in TMA. Alex just found “The Journal”. :) #
  • 1748 – we have progress on the word count front! #
  • @TeeMonster Those heathens, not to have your books there! #
  • @TeeMonster You’ll be pleased to know, though, I have gotten four friends (and my mother) to buy Podasting For Dummies. #

Another Chapter Completed.

Chapter 17 of TMA was completed today. It came in at 2487 words, for a manuscript total of 41,031. That puts me over halfway to the minimum of 80k words. My posting requirements for my writing group have been fulfilled. Now it’s just crits to do.
