I scuttle around the web, looking for articles about worldbuilding. Most of the ones I find are simply a blog writer’s opinions of the worldbuilding in a novel or story. Once in a while, however, I find a gem or two.

Speculative Horizons has an article (blog entry, actually) about making and breaking worlds. It’s not a how-to article, but an examination of how different authors have done worldbuilding in their work. It makes for an excellent read.

I think the most important thing we can take from this article is: “And perhaps most importantly, reveals their world without interrupting the story.”

I subscribe to dictionary.com’s Word of the Day mailing list. Here’s today’s word – I thought I should share it. :)

philogyny \fi-LOJ-uh-nee\, noun:

Love of or liking for women (opposite of misogyny.)

I just found a really neat short story by Cathy Clamp, called Fare Thee Well. Check it out!
