So, I’m about to start work on Chapter 15 of TMA, and decide to read through Chapter 14. To my dismay, I discover that not only is it incomplete, but it’s not even the most recent version of it. I log into my writing group’s website and find out that I uploaded this incorrect, incomplete version. At first, I thought I could recover the chapter from the thumb drive I’m using to back this stuff up, but two days ago I copied evreything off my desktop onto the drive, overwriting everything.

I’m trying not to panic. I worked on the chapter on my old laptop, so I fire up the old monster. Luckily, it’s got all the stuff I wrote during Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have any of the stuff I wrote afterward. So, I’ve lost two, maybe three pages of work. Needless to say, I’m angry at myself for doing it, but at least I didn’t lose everything.

I’ve got a Gmail account, so what I’m going to do from now on (or at least try to remember to do) is email whatever chapter I’m working on to that account. That way if I do something stupid like this again, I won’t panic and won’t lose as much as I did this time.
