In Sickness and in Health
February 4th, 2008
No, I’m not reciting wedding vows or anything like that. I’m talking about the conditions under which we work. Being a freelancer means if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. If you’ve got an office job (as in you don’t work at home), you can drag yourself in to work and do what you can, then come home and leave it all behind you. When you work at home, it’s a lot harder to leave it behind. The office is just a few steps away, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
I usually hold off on doing any serious work until after 12:30 pm, as that’s when I’ve gotten the girlie onto the bus and have thought about lunch. Today, I start feeling sick just before noon, making it really difficult to concentrate. I wrote about 2000 words this afternoon, and I’m probably going to throw them all out tomorrow because they’re just awful. Hopefully my tummy will settle down overnight and I can make it up tomorrow.
