Monday, end of day report
January 14th, 2008
Well look at that progress bar. I checked the word count when I finished Chapter 9 this afternoon, and I’ve written/edited (working from a truly horrendous initial draft) 12,216 words since December 12th. I think it’s due to a couple of things:
- I don’t care if I feel what I just wrote is crap. It probably isn’t and I’m being too hard on myself. For that reason, I will just write and post the chapter for my writing group to look at and move on to the next chapter.
- I promised myself that I’ll get this book done and out to at least one agent by the end of 2008.
- I believe I’ve found my “music to write by”. Right now, it’s the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack. I don’t know why. It’s not like TMA has the same setting, or the same kinds of characters. It just works, so I’m not going to argue.
For the music, it’s probably because it’s instrumental. I can’t write well if I’m listening to words; I want to pay attention to what I’m listening to. So, it either needs to be quiet, or instrumental music.
So, Chapter 9 has come to a close. Alex is angry as all get out, and managed to get away from the reporter, but not before something happened that freaked the reporter out. Chapter 10 starts with Alex… somewhere. I’m pretty sure I know where, but I need to figure out why. So, to charge up the creative engines - and to reward myself for cranking out 12k+ words in the past month (only really working weekdays on it) - I’m having a small bowl of Reese Puffs.
